We had Kayden's 6 month appointment last week and he did great! Nick was gone in New York on a mission trip so my mom went with me for the dreaded shots! Kayden did wonderful! He cried but not very hard and was over it in seconds! Thank goodness!
The stats:
Weight: 14.2 lbs (5th%)
height: 26 1/4 inches (50%)
Yep... When I was like 34 weeks pregnant I remember having an ultrasound to check the baby's size. At that point I remember her saying he was in the 10% for his weight at his gestational age... It has continued into his life :) he's just gonna be a skinny guy :)

Our first sick day! (or week....)
Kayden has had his first sick visit at the doctor's office this week! Poor baby was soo pitiful! On Sunday we started out fine! We went to church like normal and then went over to Nick's parents house. He took a nap, and when he woke up I tried giving him some green beans. He didn't really eat them and kept acting like he was choking on them. It was kinda odd, but it was just the second day of him having green beans so I thought maybe he just didn't like them. So I decided we would just stop and try a bottle. He drank about 2 ounces of a bottle and then didn't want anymore.
Then, about an hour after his bottle he vomited. It wasn't his normal spit up, it just kept.coming.out! Luckily, we didn't have church that night so we brought him home and I took his temperature. It was 100.7 so we gave him a half a dose of tylenol and put him to bed, where he then vomited again. Around 3 a.m. he woke up, vomited again and I took his temp which was up to 102. I gave him some more tylenol and both of us tried to get some sleep.
On Monday, we called the doctor because he vomited once again. We took him to the sick side :( She decided that it was a viral infection that she couldn't do anything about. She wanted us to let his fever run it's course during the day, not giving any tylenol until night time. We went home and he slept all day long. He would wake up every now and then and take about 2 ounces and go straight back to sleep. He was so pitiful and looked miserable. At around 6:30 his temperature hit 103 and I gave him tylenol. Once the tylenol set in, he was a happy camper. I thought that he had finally gotten over it and was on the up and up.
Kayden really didnt sleep well monday night/tuesday morning, but didn't really get sick again. Tuesday morning around 6, he vomited again and then had diarrhea. The diarrhea was a new symptom so I started getting a little worried about dehydration since he also wasn't eating well. However, his fever had broken for good and hadn't had a fever since we gave him the tylenol the night before. Throughout the day he still had diarrhea but no more vomiting, and he wouldn't have it every time he ate so that was also good. That night was rough though. He would sleep for 2 hours and then just wake up screaming. He didn't have a fever so I didn't want to give him tylenol but it was obvious he still wasn't feeling well and he still wasn't eating very well. He also started coughing a dry cough which made me nervous. We went in and out of sleep with only getting maybe 2 hours of solid sleep that night. Around 4 wednesday morning I emailed our pediatrician about his new symptoms and she wanted me to call and make an appointment when they opened. She felt more comfortable seeing him again and making sure everything was alright rather than not seeing him and something really be wrong.
We went in wednesday morning and they weighed him again. Monday he was 15.1 pounds and Wednesday he had dropped to 14.11. :( We talked about his new symptoms and she said that they seem to be pretty common with other kids she has seen but she wanted to check his ears, throat, and lungs again just to make sure, but they were all fine. She gave us some instructions to give him some pedialyte and gave us samples of some probiotics to help the lining in his stomach. He was suppose to have his 6 month check up on Friday, but we decided to reschedule that as to make sure he was well for his shots.
So here we are. He's still coughing but seems to be in better spirits. Hopefully we are on the up and up for good this time! It was so hard to see my poor baby not feeling well! At one point I remember hoping that he would end up with an ear infection or something like that to where they could give him medicine and he would get better quickly rather than it just dragging on and on!! But, I'm glad we have a doctor that doesn't just give an antibiotic for every little thing and only gives it to them if she really thinks they need it.

Debt Free!
Today, we are officially (well when the checks clear :) ) DEBT FREE!! It's a great feeling! It's definitely not something we thought we would be able to accomplish with me not working a full time job, but thanks to tax returns we have done it! We didn't have a TON of debt, but we did have some hospital bills left to pay, a little on a credit card, and some to nick's grandparents that they let us borrow for a car that my brother is fixing up for us. But I am so happy to say that we are debt free, AND all our bills for this month are paid, on time... before they are actually due since we are normally having to figure out through out the month when we can pay our bills so that we don't overdraft (and it's car insurance month which is usually a REALLY stressful month for us). It is ALL paid and now we can enjoy the rest of the month (and months to come!) without having to worry about if we are going to be able to pay bills.
Also, while on this money note, God has really provided lately. Not that he always doesn't because he has ALWAYS provided for us, but in December Nick used up all his semesters for the North American Mission Board internship which he was getting paid to do. That money, while not a ton, helped us tremendously. On top of that we started going to physical therapy and had two more months before we reached our deductible so we were having to pay for each visit. But, great opportunities opened up for us. Ben and Bethany took Avery out of daycare and now I watch him Tuesday, Thursdays, and a little while on Friday and they are so graciously paying me to watch my nephew (I mean, I would do it for free because it's my nephew for goodness sakes!) But we were really down to the point to where we were going to have to figure something out as in me going back to work at least part time to help pay for the bills until I got a teaching job in August, so them paying us to watch Avery helped out ALOT. I also watch a friends little girl on Fridays and then last night, another friend found out that she may need someone to watch her boys on monday, wednesday and fridays (monday and wednesday i don't have avery and one of her boys goes to preschool from 9-12) and fridays my mom has kayden so I would have the little girl and then one little boy until the other gets done with preschool and by then nick is usually home, and he is definitely home by the time they bring avery so it's not like i have an over abundance of kids all at once by myself. The logistics of it all has just amazed me and it's only something that God could have orchestrated. At no time will I have more than 3 kids at one time by myself, and when I do have 3, it's only for about an hour until Nick gets home. And both boys are older than the other kids so they will both be able to help for that short time where I will have 3 at the same time. I am so so thankful for these opportunities and am so thankful that God has yet again provided... he does everytime so I do not know why i doubt that he will but I also hope this story encourages others that may be going through that difficult time and may be doubting also :)
and sleeping is going great! It took 25 minutes last night, he woke back up at 12:30 (which this was for his normal 10-11 bottle but he didn't get a bottle until 8 so i let him sleep until he woke up) and then went back down until around 3 where he came back to bed with us. So thankful this is getting easier!!
The 5 month picture you ask... well it's coming. It may be the last day of his 5 months but it will still be when he is 5 months. We are having problems with the light fixture in his room so we only have a really dim lamp in there so it's not good lighting for the picture... and I refuse to take the picture anywhere else :) so it's coming... i promise! :)

Sitting up!
If you can't tell... I got an iPhone and i'm a little obsessed with taking videos right now :) This one is of my big boy sitting up all on his own! I'm so proud of him! He gets better and better at it each day!
Kayden waving bye bye
Tonight Kayden started waving bye bye! He really was just imitating us but hopefully with us saying it when he does it he will start associating it. He did actually do it on cue for the camera though. Sometimes he will, sometimes he won't! But it's still cute never the less :)
Sleeping went good last night. He went down at 7:30, asleep at 8:30 woke back up around 10:30 so I gave him a bottle, went down really easily after his bottle and stayed in his crib until 2:30. Progress. He went down tonight at about 8 and is still crying... but hopefully it won't take an hour tonight! We will see!

...one more on sleeping :)
Last night was just ok. But atleast we are making progress! Kayden woke up at 12:00 a.m. and I let him lay in there and cry in hopes of him falling back to sleep (because I knew he wasn't hungry). I let him cry for 40 minutes but he never went back to sleep so I went and picked him up and he instantly fell asleep when I put him in the bed with us.
Tonight, we did the same thing as last night. He screamed for an hour and then fell asleep. He has been in his bed since 7:30, asleep since 8:30 and it's now 9:45. He woke up briefly at 9:30, but didn't cry... I could just see his eyes open on the video monitor (LOVE by the way) for a little bit and then he went back to sleep. Instead of waiting for his 10-11:00 feeding to put rice in his bottle, I decided to put it in for this bottle and see what happens. So... this probably won't be my last post on sleeping :)
oh... and at some point I'll post his 5 month picture... since, i mean, the kid turns 6 months old next week (GAH!!)
